Using Library.PressDisplay.com
Using Library.PressDisplay.com is quite easy, enjoyable, and even addictive. When you log into Library PressDisplay, you are presented with The World in Pictures. These are the pictures drawn from all of our newspapers and magazines that readers have discovered and are actively viewing.
On the left-hand side of the screen you will see Newsline; these are articles that readers recommend. They are highly ranked articles which are easily accessible to readers by simply clicking on the article headline.
On the right-hand side of the screen readers can click on the newspapers within Librarian's Picks. This section has been specifically customized by your librarian to ensure quick access to the most frequently read publications at your library.
By simply scrolling down the page readers are able to view the most interesting Top Stories of News, Business, Sports, Entertainment and Editorial according to our readers.
To select the publication you wish to read, simply click Select Newspaper on the toolbar along the top of the screen. A drop down menu will allow you to view available titles by country, language or alphabetically. Select the publication you want to read, and its first page will be displayed in the main window. The Toolbar on the bottom of the page provides the interface for viewing thumbnails of each page in the newspaper and for quickly jumping to a new page.

- You can click on the page once with a mouse.
- 2. You can press and hold down the left mouse button to draw a dotted circle. This will lasso the area, opening up a magnifying lens, in which the desired section will be enlarged. You can move this box or increase its size by dragging its borders. You can also enlarge this box by clicking the maximize icon. To close it, click the close icon.

*Once the page is enlarged you can reverse the mouse drag direction by clicking the

Simply click on 'All thumbnails'on the right to see all of the thumbnails for the particular publication title in the main window.

You can increase or decrease font size within the magnifying lens by clicking on the desired level on the zoom scale in the Toolbar on the bottom of the page.

You can select the desired newspaper view based on your preference. To toggle between these options, please click on

in the Toolbar on the bottom of the page.
To move to a new page click the respective icon
in the Toolbar on the bottom of the page. When you select a new page, the main window is updated with the selected page.

One of the great advantages of digital newspaper and magazine reading is the ability to quickly search for keyword(s). PressDisplay includes a search function which provides readers with Advanced Search options. Simply enter your query in the Search field at the top of the screen and click Search. You may also choose to specify the date range of your search by using the drop down menu.
You may also choose to perform your search from within its own window. To access it click on the Search button prior to entering your query. This allows you to utilize Advanced Search. There are five additional fields which can be used to refine your search on the left-hand side.
Under the In newspapers field you may select which newspapers you wish to search by country. This means you can easily search all newspapers from any given country.
You may select which subset of newspapers you wish to search according. Our advanced search mechanism will use your newspaper selection to automatically detect the language.
Under the Date field you may choose any date or a specific date range.
Under the Author field you may search by author.
Under the Results located field you may choose to have results with the keywords located in just the headline, the body of the article, or both.
After the search is completed, PressDisplay will present thumbnails of the pages that contain your searched keyword(s). These results may be sorted by Relevance, Date or Newspaper. All search results will be highlighted in red on all of the pages where they appear.

With PressDisplay, you can access not just today's issue of your favorite publication, but read all of the issues from the last 60 days (note that some publications are offered with the shorter back issue access as per publisher's request). Select the newspaper or magazine you would like to read, then in the top toolbar mouse over the date of the publication to open up the calendar function. A floating calendar will appear, showing the dates for which this title is available to you.

SmartNavigation is our proprietary XML processing system which allows the newspaper to be broken down by sections and articles. SmartNavigation is available on most major titles and is marked with the Smart
logo on the front page thumbnail and in the title selection menu. SmartNavigation allows unparalleled advanced digital tools such as:

To view an article in text view, place the cursor over the article until it is highlighted and click the title of the article. A new window will open with the article in text view.

When viewing a page or article it may say 'See Page 4' or 'To read more see Harper on A4'. On most SmartNavigation titles these are converted into links which will re-direct you to the continuation of the specific article. Phone numbers (Skype or NetMeeting), emails and URLs that are found within the publication are also live so you can connect to those sources immediately if desired.

For titles appearing with SmartNavigation a table of contents will appear on right hand side of the screen. You can also navigate every article within each section by moving your cursor over "A1 Front Page" at the top, a little left of center. For fast linking to a specific article simply select the article from within this list.

You can print an article by clicking the print
icon within the article text view.
When viewing an article in text view, simply click Translate and choose the language in which you wish to read the article. If you have translated the text and wish to view it in its original language, click Original.
Sound Integration |

Sound Integration allows readers to listen to an article. Users can enjoy this feature while reading other publications or while using other applications. Simply choose the article you wish to listen to and click the sound
icon. The audio will begin to play in Windows Media Player. (If you have used the language translation tool, on most occasions the article will be read to you in the language that you have chosen.)

When viewing an article or page you wish to share, simply click the Email
icon to send the link to another party. A new window will appear where you can personalize your message. Once you have entered the recipient(s) email address, click Send. Your message will automatically be sent. You can also copy and paste into your email program to send.

Article Rank is a revolutionary means of measuring the interest or popularity of an article, which is determined by the length of time readers spend on that specific article. Article Rank is continually updated to reflect the most current reading preferences as determined by our readers.
Blogging refers to blogs which are websites that focus on a particular topic or area of interest. The difference between blogs and traditional websites is that blogs are highly interactive where messages, articles, images and links can be posted and commented upon.
PressDisplay currently supports Blogger, LiveJournal, WordPress and MSN Spaces. If you wish, you can click “view source” and copy the HTML coding to your personal webpage or blog if it is not supported.
To begin blogging on PressDisplay, simply click the blogging
icon while viewing an article or page. A new window will open where you can edit text you wish to include with your blog. Once you are finished editing the text click Next. You will then be given the option to choose your blog provider. Once you have chosen your blog provider please enter your username and password and click Submit.

RSS is a family of web feed formats, specified in XML and used for Web syndication. RSS is used by, among other things, news Web sites. Web feeds provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content.
PressDisplay supports users who choose to use RSS to retrieve and to keep track of the latest news from their favorite news source. After selecting a title, simply click the RSS
icon, a new window will appear with the URL that you will need to paste within your chosen RSS reading program.
Please note: if you are accessing the created RSS feed outside the library (remotely), you will need to initiate your Library PressDisplay session first to ensure you can access the RSS feed content correctly. Please proceed with the established remote user authentication method provided to you by yur library, and once you have started up your Library PressDisplay session, you will be able to easily use your personal RSS feeds.
